Zoombinis Are Back!
Kickstarter Launched!
In 1996, the home of the Zoombinis was invaded, the little blue creatures were captured and it was up to us to free them from the evil Bloats and, while utilizing logic and puzzle-solving skills, find them a new home. It was a brilliant game that captured everything necessary to be a fun title that kids would actually play on their own, but also managed to stretch those young logic muscles and actually have some educational value.
Well, after almost 20 years, the Zoombinis are back for another round. With the rights to the Zoombinis reacquired, TERC (a non-profit leader in K-12 education) has launched a Kickstarter to bring the game to a whole new generation of children. Their goal: $50,000.
To make the Zoombinis game we want to make, we need your help. We’re already working hard to bring the game to tablets this summer, and this initial goal will help us make the new Zoombinis the best it can be on a variety of platforms, stay true to the original, and really polish the game. In particular, we want to increase the range of devices we support beyond the iPad and Android tablets to include PC, Mac, and tablets of all sizes. To accomplish all this we need to deal with some assets from the old game that are either missing or aren't in the shape they need to be, perform additional QA and testing, and help ensure we offer a great experience for the players.
Any funds raised beyond the goal will go directly toward improving and expanding the Zoombinis experience.

While the game is making the jump to new platforms and the art is being updated, the core of the "Logical Journey of the Zoombinis" is the same. If you played as a child, you'll remember the Pizza Trolls, and the Fleens and the Allergic Cliffs. It may look a tad different, but the essence of each challenge will still be there but optimized to perform on Android and Apple devices, as well as the PC. New technology for the new generation.
Provided the game gets the funding that it needs, it will be out to the public by August of this year. As of the writing of this article, their Kickstarter has already passed the $10k, which is quite exciting considering this is the first day of the campaign. Player Theory is looking forward to helping our little blue friends find a new home this summer!
