EA Didn’t Put Campaign in “Star Wars Battlefront” to Meet With “Force Awakens”
It Was a "Conscious Decision"
In an investor broadcast (reported by Eurogamer), EA executive Patrick Soderlund said that EA made the decision to not put a single player campaign in "Star Wars Battlefront (2016)" so they could release the game around the launch of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
We made [the choice] due to time and being able to launch the game side-by-side with the movie that came out to get the strongest possible impact.
I think the team created a really good game based on the premise that we had. I would say the game has done very well for us and reached a very different demographic than a traditional EA game.
So from that perspective, it's a success. Are we happy with the 75 rating? No. Is that something we're going to cure going forward? Absolutely.
Many reviews for the game have stated that the lack of content and single player campaign was a major drawback to the game (among reports of terrible spawn points and balance issues). Whether EA actually implements a single player campaign in the future or not will have to be seen in the next entry of the "Battlefront" games.
