“Crash Bandicoot” Still Owned By Activision
No new games yet
WARNING: Mild "Uncharted 4" spoilers ahead. You have been warned.
Fans of the spinning marsupial that is Crash Bandicoot have been in a state of hesitant excitement and confusion recently when it was discovered that said Bandicoot had a brief (but charming and fun) cameo in Naughty Dog's "Uncharted 4," the swan-song for adventurer Nathan Drake. Many have theorized that Naughty Dog had secretly reacquired the rights and that this might be foreshadowing a brand new "Crash" game. Sony have now addressed the confusion with some solid (and not so solid answers).
According to Sony, the "Crash" IP still belongs to Activision, who have owned it since 2008. However, neither Activision or Naughty Dog have commented on the situation.
When asked about the possibility of a new "Crash" game in the foreseeable future, SCEE President Jim Ryan said "Um... we're certainly aware of the considerable affection---even reverence---in which the mighty Crash is held. But nothing to update at this stage in that area."
The last "Crash Bandicoot" game to come out was "Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 2," a racing spin-off on mobile devices which came out in 2010. As far as the main series games go, however, the last one was "Mind Over Mutant," which released in 2008. This makes it eight years since Crash's last proper adventure.
