Witness the Birth of the Turnabout in “Dai Gyakuten Saiban”
Capcom Announces New "Ace Attorney" Game with Distinct Japanese Flavor
You've seen Phoenix Wright cut witnesses down to size. Now ready yourself for new battles of logic and will in the newest installment of the "Ace Attorney" series! Set in Japan's Meiji era (1868-1912), "Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodou Ryuunosuke no Bouken" travels back in time to explore the ancestry of the beloved defense attorney.
Known in the West as “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney,” the “Gyakuten Saiban” franchise is known for its intriguing characters, complex cases, and riveting dialogue. Mixed with a good deal of well-placed humor, the series is a favorite of players around the world.
“Grand Turnabout Trial: The Adventures of Ryuunosuke Naruhodou” (which is the Western translation of the title) is garnering a great deal of interest in the short time since its announcement. One of the primary reasons is the return or Shu Takumi, creator of the “Ace Attorney” series. Takumi's attention to detail and his ability to create complex, relatable characters was instrumental in the initial success of the series.
Secondly, Capcom released a teaser trailer for the new game (subtitled here by YouTube user Bolt2nd), which offered players a glimpse of the courtroom of Ryuunosuke's time and introduced another character, Mikotoba Susato (family name Mikotoba). The hints “founder” and “forefather” along with the clue “now these two shall meet and bring about a miracle” could elude to Susato being the founder of the Fey line of spirit mediums. The Fey women have long been known for being able to channel spirits, and the family has well-established connections to Ryuunosuke's descendant, Phoenix Wright.
Currently, there is no release date for the title in Japan. Due to the difficulty of localization of such a heavily Japanese-influenced title, Capcom has said that “Dai Gyakuten Saiban” will be a Japan-only release. However, because of previous fan support for other “Ace Attorney” titles that were supposedly Japan-only, many of those titles were eventually released to Western audiences. For instance, the most recent “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney-Dual Destinies” title was released digitally thanks to the tireless efforts of the series' devotees. Chances are that, given enough pressure from fans, we could see “Dai Gyakuten Saiban” stateside if only just available in the Nintendo e-Shop.
