“Vib-Ribbon” Slated for PSN Release Tomorrow - Sony Welcomes Vibri Back after 15-Year Hiatus

After Sony teased us with murmurs of the name “Vib-Ribbon” during this year’s E3 conference, the title finally arrives tomorrow for the PSN in North America, a fan favorite not all players got a chance to experience the first time the game was released in 1999.

“Vib-Ribbon” was a rhythm-based game for the original PlayStation console where you controlled a rabbit-like character named Vibri. It was unique in that you could play the game using any song from a CD loaded into the console. The levels were randomly generated using your custom music. The game utilized simplistic graphics and a black-and-white color scheme, but it remained a fan favorite for over a decade.

After a vague reference to the game twice during Sony’s spotlight at E3 last June, players were confused as to what the references to the 15-year old game meant and if the title would find its way to current iterations of the PlayStation console. According to the PlayStation Blog, the answer is finally “yes” for the PS3, PSVita, and possibly PS4:

I would like to give you all the chance to celebrate this iconoclastic title by bringing to all fans, worldwide, the chance to experience the original Vib Ribbon. As a result of the “outpouring of love” at the E3 name drops, our engineers have developed a way to bring Vibri to life on PS3 and PS Vita (we’re still working on a way to make it available on PS4). We look to have both of them up on PlayStation Store tomorrow at a price attractive to both Vibri virgins and the rare few amongst you who found a way to experience the Singing Spline back in the day.
