VGX Premieres Telltale’s “Game of Thrones” - Winter Is (Officially) Coming

Following the leak few weeks ago, where it was all but confirmed that Telltale was working on an ambitious project set in Westeros, a few minutes ago on the VGX award show, there was a world premiere of the Telltale Games' "Game of Thrones" game teaser.

The teaser itself was rather underwhelming, as it was just a few title cards with some snow and ravens, set to the classic 'Game of Thrones' theme song. Still, all it really takes is a chord from that theme song to get a fan excited about a new way to explore the 'Game of Thrones' world.

Following the teaser, there was an interview with two Telltale developers.

The interview felt like a mix of things that the developers weren't allowed to talk about yet and things that they hadn't really developed yet. As it stands, it seems that the good people at Telltale are still working on the story and characters that the game is going to follow, but the game will likely be using the books as source material rather than the HBO show. That doesn't necessarily mean the game is going full of spoilers for those that haven't read all the books, though. George RR Martin has created a huge world that Telltale is able to draw from with characters that most of us know and love, but also tons of lesser characters that have important stories that we know nothing about.

Personally, I would like to see a game focusing on "Robert's Rebellion," maybe jumping back and forth from the perspective of soldiers or knights on different sides of the conflict.

Telltale plans to use the episodic nature that they are known for to really work with what the players want - following the stories that the fans of the game seem to like the most.

If the Telltale version of "Game of Thrones" is anything like the "The Walking Dead" or "Jurassic Park" games, we can expect having a lot at stake and a lot of choice and consequence that can completely change the course of the game. Mix those elements with the epic universe of "A Song of Ice and Fire" and I think that the Telltale "Game of Thrones" will be a winner for 2014.
