Ubisoft Confirms No Big “Assassin’s Creed” 2016

"Stepping back and re-examining the franchise"

Ubisoft Confirms No Big “Assassin’s Creed” 2016 -

In a post on the UbiBlog, Ubisoft has confirmed that there won't be a major release for the "Assassin's Creed" series.

This year, we also are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise. As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback. We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise. We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.

Ubisoft mentions the "Assassin's Creed" movie, so that may be taking a lot of attention from Ubisoft (despite movie development not equating to game development) to try and buck the trend of movies based on video games not turning out awful. Perhaps because of the fans and becoming weary of "Assassin's Creed" games potentially being buggy upon release (no thanks to "Unity"), they want to try and polish their games and avoid franchise fatigue.
