Tidbits: The State of Gaming on Oct. 10
Things You May Have Missed
"CodeSpells" Successfully Funded!
Another kickstarter PlayerTheory covered has run the gauntlet and with a grand total of $164,014 pledged, "CodeSpells" by ThoughtSTEM is set to be released to backers in Sept. 2015. Their final total sees them through four stretch goals that add to the types of spells that players are able to program and ramp up the environment. I think someone should start a petition to have this replace "Oregon Trail" in middle school computer labs. Be an awesome wizard who can create their own spells while learning to code or lose all your oxen trying to ford a river and then die of dysentery ... you decide.
"Sentinels of the Multi-Platformed-Verse!"
Handelabra Games has submitted their “Sentinels of the Multiverse” game app to Apple on Monday so it seems that the Oct. 16 release date will be met. The base tablet game will include 10 heroes, 4 villains, and 4 environments. It will cost a mere $10 and will be available on iPad and Android tablets on the App and Google Play stores.
“Myst” Becomes More!
Player Theory covered the forthcoming “Myst” TV series earlier this week, but in case you missed it... Legendary Entertainment, the studio behind “Godzilla” and “Inception,” is making a “Myst” TV series! This particular writer is a huge fan of the games (they were one of the first PC games Anni and Jen ever played), and I cannot wait for this to be realized! Gosh, I hope its good.
“Destiny:” Under Construction!
“Destiny” has certainly had its share of bugs and glitches and recently another unfinished area was discovered by YouTube streamer se7evsins. The unfinished DLC consists of underground caverns on the games version of the planet Mars but is currently empty. Developers will be populating this level for gameplay at some point, but for now, if you can find the right glitch in the wall, it seems like a neat place to explore.
"Octodad’s" Next Catch!
Speaking of DLC, on Oct. 14, “Octodad: Dadliest Catch” will be getting free DLC “Shorts” with the v1.03 patch. The first of the two stories will take us through Scarlet and Octodad’s first date and the other is a medical drama skit made up by Octodad’s surprisingly human children.
The DLC will be available on Steam, the Humble Store, and GOG initially with the PSN to follow and, in case you don’t already have it, “Octodad: Dadliest Catch" will be on sale for 50 percent off for one week starting on the Oct. 14.
Rumored CoolStuff!
Hold on to your wallets…The gaming grapevines are whispering of a soon to come Steam Halloween Sale scheduled to go live on Oct. 30! A leaked email sent from Steam to TechRaptor asks for sale participants that “fit in to the general Halloween theme.” Expect to see “horror, zombies, ghosts, vampires, survival horror, dark, and so on” for the crazy low Steam-sale prices we all know and love.
Can’t wait until the end of October to quench your entertainment sale thirst? CoolStuffInc.com is having a huge sale this weekend. Everything from board games to miniatures to RPG supplies are just waiting for you to give them a happy home. The CoolStuff sale runs until October 13th.
