“Among the Sleep:” The Terror is Real - “Among the Sleep” In Development for PS4 with VR Support

Norwegian indie developer, Krillbite Studio, recently confirmed that they are developing their latest title “Among the Sleep” for PS4 in addition to the previously announced platforms of PC, Mac, and Linux. Not only will “ATS” be available on PS4, but it will also be compatible with Project Morpheus, Sony’s answer to the Oculus Rift virtual reality technology.

“Among the Sleep” is a first-person horror adventure in which you play as a two-year child. Upon waking in the middle of the night, you begin to look for your mother. Aided by your teddy bear (who talks), you must maneuver your way through your poorly-lit home. The only soundtrack provided is that of the child’s breathing, thumps, and other atmospheric sounds (like footsteps, TV static, etc.) which amp up the creepiness factor.

You gradually awaken in your darkened bedroom, lying in a crib. That’s when the weirdness sets in. At one point as you are still waking up, your trusty teddy is pulled from your bed by an invisible source. Your crib eventually overturns, and you venture from your room down a hallway that is littered with obstacles. The attention to detail really adds a level of authenticity to the game. For instance, the boxes that line the hallway have labels that bear odd symbols. When you consider that the protagonist is a child who is too young to know how to read, these symbols are meant to represent words which, to a child, would look like strange symbols.

The development team has expressed interest in developing “Among the Sleep” for other platforms as well (including the Wii U), but they are currently focusing on developing for those platforms already announced. No release date has been announced at this time.
