The Original “Last of Us” Ending - Released Concept Art Illustrates How It Could've Gone Down

In a tweet last night, Neil Druckmann, creative director at Naughty Dog, spoke about what he's going to talk about during his panel at Pax Prime at the end of August. He plans on discussing what Naughty Dog originally had planned for the ending of 2013's hit game "The Last of Us." It'll be up to the fans to decide which ending they prefer. Tacked on to that tweet was a piece of concept art which dramatically teases at how the game could have potentially ended.

The image shows Marlene (After edit: Or maybe Tess?), yelling at a restrained Joel with a knife to his neck and his head pulled back. We can only speculate if this is seconds before she slits his throats or if Joel had just pissed her off, and she was threatening him. Either way, this seems like quite a turn from how the final version of the game ended.

Neil Druckmann's panel at Pax Prime will take place Friday, Aug. 30 from 2 to 3 pm. Naughty Dog game director Bruce Straley and game developer Arne Meyer will join Neil at the panel.

Someone buy me a ticket to Seattle.
