“The Last Guardian” Lives - Still In Development, Despite Rumors

"The Last Guardian" by Team Ico (Developer of "Shadows of the Colossus" and "Ico") has been in development since 2007, and formally announced to the public in 2009. Since that time, it has suffered innumerable delays and setbacks and has passed by all it's set release dates (last set for 2011). The game is set around a boy trying to escape from a massive ruin while befriending a giant griffon-like creature named Trico. The player controls the boy, and uses the environment to get Trico to help him traverse the dangerous setting.

Since missing it's last deadline, there has been little news of the game, expect for the occasional, whispered rumor.

This week, however, it was discovered that Sony failed to renew it's trademark for the game. It was immediately feared that after all the years of setbacks and complications, Sony was dropping "The Last Guardian" from development in lieu of pursuing other things.

We learned today that that was not the case.

Abandoning the trademark was apparently just an administrative error, and Sony is currently going through the steps to remedy the error with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

While we can all breathe a sigh of relief that there is still a chance to see gorgeous-looking "The Last Guardian" sometime in the future, Sony has been tight-lipped about any details with the games development - besides telling us that it is, in fact, being developed.

Player Theory will let you know the moment that we have definite news about "The Last Guardian," but until then, we all have to just be patient and remember that good things come to those who wait.
