Takamaru Was Originally Planned to Be Playable in “Super Smash Bros.” - Sakurai Didn't Think Anyone Would Recognize Him

Takamaru, the Assist Trophy from the newest "Super Smash Bros." for Wii U/3DS, was originally planned as a playable character in an interview with Masahiro Sakurai (with IGN translating the interview).

Takamaru first appeared in "The Mysterious Murasame Castle" and as a sticker in "Super Smash Bros. Brawl." He was thought for a fighter early on, but Sakurai eventually decided to not have him since he didn't think anyone would recognize him (though it wouldn't be the first time obscure characters, such as Ness & Lucas ("Mother"), Marth & Roy ("Fire Emblem"), and Mr. Game & Watch, where included in "Smash.") Instead, Takamaru appears as an Assist Trophy. Perhaps he will appear in a future "Smash" game or as DLC, like Mewtwo.
