“Super Smash Bros.” for Wii U 50-Fact Extravaganza
Game Bursts with New Content
Nintendo just announced a bundle of information in its latest Nintendo Direct for "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U." There were over 50 facts shown off, and voiced by the announcer to boot, and here's what is in store for this mighty installment of "Super Smash Bros."
- The Wii U version will have more default characters from the start, such as Ness and Ganondarf, than the 3Ds version.
- The resolution will be the highest it has ever been for "Super Smash Bros."
- For the first time ever, there will be eight players at once for matches. However, these are only on larger stages. They made big stages like Big Battlefield to compensate the sizes.
- A new stage was revealed: "Kirby's Super Star's" The Great Maze Offensive. It's a massive stage that includes Danger Zones that will KO fighters with over zero damage.
- Another new stage is from the "Donkey Kong" series: Jungle Hijinx. Another first for the series, this will have two plains for the fighters to fight on. The background stage will have higher launches when fighters are hit.
- There will be more stages in the Wii U version than the 3DS version with "Super Smash Bros. Melee & Brawl" stages returning.
- A Miiverse stage will be available some time after launch that uses Miiverse posts in the background.
- Similar to the Codex calls from Snake in "Super Smash Bros. Brawl," Pit will be able to make conversations with his co-stars from "Kid Icarus: Uprising."
- Metal Face will be a stage boss on Gaur Plain from "Xenoblade Chronicles."
- Ridley will be a stage boss on Pyrosphere from the "Metroid" series. However, Ridley can aid a player who has damaged him enough. He can also be KO'd just like a regular character.
- Coin battles, stamina battles, special battles, and item frequency return as options for the Smash mode.
- My Music functions just like it did in "Brawl" with the Wii U version having the most music out of any "Smash" game yet. And CDs also return as items.
- Challenges will be on one menu screen again, as opposed to the three on the 3DS version.
- Classic Mode functions based on your performance, unlike any Classic Mode before. You can also have two players at the same time and clear movies return.
- All-Star works the same way except you attack fighters in reverse chronological order.
- Event Mode returns functioning like it did in "Brawl."
- A new mode called Smash Tour is a board-game setup with Miis. You collect fighters to use at the end to fight and power ups like Smash Run on the 3DS version. The stock for lives are the fighters collected.
- Target Blast works like it did on the 3DS version but with a second larger bomb. Also, there are three stage types.
- Group Stadium lets four people for the first time play Stadium modes together, either co-op (two still) or turns with four.
- A new mode called Special Orders will feature Master Hand and Crazy Hand with their two modes respectfully. Each has a special challenges to complete with rewards.
- Master Core appears like it did on the 3DS version but with a new form called Master Fortress where it becomes a stage-sized boss to fight.
- There are many controller options, the most options "Smash" has ever offered. Most Wii controllers are compatible with the game, along with the Gamecube Adapter (sold separately or in the bundle). The 3Ds can also act like a controller.
- Connecting with the 3DS, you can transfer customized fighters, including Miis and the customized moves. You can even transfer the items, as well.
- The Wii U version will offer the most trophies "Smash" has ever had before. These trophies include the Final Smash trophies by beating All-Star Mode. In addition, there is the Trophy Box mode, which has themes for certain trophies in a series.
- In Photo Studio, you can take any kind of picture with the trophies collected.
- Trophy Rush also appears, this time with co-op.
- Just like in "Brawl," there is a Masterpieces Mode which offers short game segments from previous games like "Super Mario Bros.," "The Legend of Zelda," "Kirby's Super Star," and more.
- Amiibos will appear in game as Figure Player and will level up the more you let them play.
- As always, a good Internet connection is required to play online. The Wii LAN Adapter is also compatible with the Wii U. Two people on one console can also play online.
- Tourneys and Tournaments return, though these modes may take a bit longer. Tournaments offer up to 64 fighters.
- The gamepad will be a big feature for the game. You can take pictures and edit them just like in Mario Paint. With the gamepad, people can voice chat. Those they can't be used during actual matches.
- The gamepad will be the main tool for Stage Building. The mode is more robust than "Brawl's," offering more variety to make the stage you dreamed of.
- Sharing will be added (e.g., pictures, videos, etc.) when they are ready. However, ut's still in development.
- The movies for newcomers, like Mega Man and Little Mac, will be available to view in HD.
- By registering both versions of "Super Smash Bros." for 3DS and Wii U on Club Nintendo, you can get a special two-disc CD gift that has ton of music from both versions.
- SPOILERS: Bowser Jr. was officially revealed to be a newcomer. Not only that, but all seven of the Koopalings will be his alternate skins.
- And for the biggest surprise of the night (other than eight-player Smash), Mewtwo, veteran fighter from "Super Smash Bros. Melee," cut from "Super Smash Bros. Brawl," will be returning. However, he is in development. By having both versions of the game, you can get him for both versions by download. He'll be around sometime in Spring 2015.
