Sony Announces PlayStation 4 Launch Date

Sony announced today that the PlayStation 4 will be available for sale on Nov. 15 (Nov.29 in Europe) with a $399 price tag. This news comes alongside significant price cuts for the PS Vita and the 12 GB model of the PlayStation 3, both of which will sell for $199. Vita players will also enjoy reduced prices for all memory cards.

The PS4 will hit shelves with 15 disc-based titles from EA, Ubisoft, Activision, Sony, and others. Sony expects to have 33 titles by the end of the year, including those for digital download. For a limited time, people buying “Battlefield 4,” “Call of Duty: Ghosts,” “Assassin's Creed 4,” and “Watch Dogs” can upgrade to PS4 copies at a reduced price.

The PS4 will include Twitch.tv livestream support and integration with some tablets and smartphones.

From Jack Tretton, Sony Computer Entertainment America’s president and CEO:

We are very excited about the fact that we have 180 games in development and that there will be over 30 of them available on shelves before the end of the holiday season. It is a very exciting time for us and for the gamer.

This news follows on the heels of Microsoft’s announcement that the Xbox One will have delayed launch in 8 of 21 countries, although American, Australian, and the United Kingdom gamers can still expect a November release for the console, currently priced at $499.
