Revealed: In-Engine Trailer for “Total War: WARHAMMER”
Featuring Emperor Karl Franz
The developers behind "Total War: WARHAMMER" have dropped the first in a series of cinematic trailers rendered in the actual game's engine, These cinematic/in-engine trailers will be used to introduce the legendary leadership behind each of the factions in newest Total War game. This first one introduces Karl Franz of the Empire as he battles a horde of Greenskins.
In the trailer, we get a taste of some of Karl Franz's backstory, a look at some of the special units that each side will have (including some siege engines), mounts for the factions leaders and we get an idea of the devastating role that magic will play in battle.
While there is a lot of hype being built up because of this trailer, there are a lot of Total War veterans that are still unsure. Citing the amazing trailers used for "Rome: Total War 2" followed by a disastrous, buggy launch riddled with patches and DLC packs, long-time fans of the series aren't quite aboard yet. Creative Assembly appears to have taken notes following the "Rome: Total War 2" release and are meeting the mistrust head-on by explaining exactly what they mean when they say "cinematic in-engine" in regards to their trailers.
The video uses Development in Progress in-game assets and code as a basis for a video shot with cinematic camera techniques to create movie-like footage. This is representative of the themes and general look and feel of the game, but it is not the direct in-game experience you will get when you are physically playing the final game.
It is likely Creative Assembly's hope that being open with how different trailers are created, it will prevent people from getting their hope's too high before the game is actually available to play and prevent massive customer rage that they faced in the wake of "Rome 2."
The release date for "Total War: WARHAMMER" has yet to be announced.
