“Ratchet & Clank” Reboot Receives New Story Trailer
Film Tie-In Coming in April
It's been three years now, but the newest "Ratchet & Clank" game is almost upon us, alongside it's movie counterpart. And developer Insomniac Games has released one more trailer to get us excited for it; this one focused more on the game's story.
We’ve joked that "Ratchet & Clank" PS4 is the game based on the film based on the game…. and that’s actually pretty accurate! The film and game are designed as complementary pieces. They tell the same origin story of Ratchet & Clank battling Chairman Drek, with the same major beats and character arcs. The film focuses a touch more on character development and the game is a bit more focused on the action that happens between the scenes. Our goal was to take advantage of what each medium does best. It seems like fans won't miss anything should they forgo either the film or the game, but we'll probably lap both up anyway, with both looking set to offer slightly different experiences. The biggest difference will be the egotistical Captain Qwark's providing unreliable narration throughout the game.
Despite being the duo's first adventure on the PS4, the game and film are a reboot that re-tells the events of the very first game which sees Ratchet & Clank teaming up to stop Chairman Drek and his army from destroying the galaxy. This time around, they'll be aided by both Qwark and some new faces in the form of the Galactic Rangers.
"Ratchet & Clank" will launch on April 15th, with the movie set to follow on April 28 in the UK and April 29 in the US. The original voice actors for Ratchet, Clank and Qwark will all be returning, along with many big-name stars like Paul Giamatti, John Goodman and Sylvester Stallone.
