The Battlelines Have Been Drawn
Now that we know the history of QuakeCon and looked at what to expect from this year's event, I sense a disturbance in the ether. The Strogg are riled and the guns have been locked and loaded as players from all walks of life take to the arena for a chance at glory and to be immortalized if only for one brief moment.
QuakeCon 2014 not only boasts a great lineup and further details about a new "Doom" title, but it also offers largest prize pool in QuakeCon history. Thousands of players from around the world will battle, brawl, and blast their way towards a share of $40,000 prize in one of four tournaments. This year's tournament lineup consists of: The Intel QUAKE LIVE Duel Masters; The PCPartPicker "QUAKE LIVE" Capture the Flag Open; and the 64-player Seasonic "QUAKE LIVE" Duel Open.
The Master's tournament is the only invitation only event. Other events only require players to sign up by the day of the event, but there will be a great mix of professional and amateur players competing, so if you’re going to be there, don’t be afraid to get a little dirty.
Matches will be broadcast live throughout the tournaments, and for the second straight year, FACEIT will be returning to QuakeCon to broadcast the "QUAKE LIVE" tournaments. Daniel "ddk" Kapadia and Xavier "Zoot" Dhorne will act as the official shoutcasters, who will be joined by several on-site guests over the duration of the event.

So we’ve got a rundown of the matches, but you may ask yourself, "Why do I want to take part?" aside from the general fun? The largest prize fund is available and you have to be ‘IN IT TO WIN IT!’. If that’s not enough, then let’s take a look at each individual event.
Intel "QUAKE LIVE" Duel Masters Invitational Championship
@Quakelive announced on July 4 the full list of invitees to this Invitational Champion, and with some big names in the world of "QUAKE LIVE" will be taking part, it’s going to be as competitive as it is deadly.
The Intel "QUAKE LIVE" Duel Masters Invitational Championship will be up to 32 of the world's best "QUAKE LIVE" players, hand selected by tournament staff from the open online registration. It’ll be a series of deadly one vs.one duels for a prize fund of $20,000 in a single elimination bracket with each match played in a best-of-five-games. Of the 32 competitors, only two will stand by the final while thousands gather as the best-of-the-best go head-to-head in a final best-of-five-games with a $9,000 check written directly to the champion.
Seasonic "QUAKE LIVE" Duel Open
For those of us less gifted and experienced in the “Quake Live” warzones, the Seasonic Duel Open is the place to be. As with the other open tournaments, this signup runs first come, first serve. If you’re lucky to get there in time, you’ll be one of up to 64 amateur players competing for a share of $2,000 with the champion walking away with $1,000. The games will be a single elimination tournament in a best-of-three series, so it’s as good a place to start if you’re looking for a glimpse of the world of professional gaming.
PCPartPicker "QUAKE LIVE" Capture the Flag Open
The PCPartPicker "QUAKE LIVE" Capture the Flag Open will feature four vs. four matches for up to 16 teams. They’ll all be competing for a share of the $20,000 prize money and the tournament winners will walk away with $8,000. It will be a double elimination bracket with the winner of a best-of-three advancing to the next stage. As a send-off bout the top two teams will then face off in a showmatch to claim an additional $2,000.
You can register for the PCPartPicker "QUAKE LIVE" Capture the Flag Open by visiting the tournament area at QuakeCon from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. CDT on Thursday July 17. As with the Duel Open, it’s on a first come, first serve basis, so don’t leave anyone behind when you head over for signups.
QuakeCon 2014 Trials II: The Revenge
For the second straight year, QuakeCon brings the QuakeCon Trials as the final exhibition tournament, a series of daily trials testing the skills of players in games from both Bethesda and Id Software.
During QuakeCon Exhibit Hall hours, participants will compete in six separate trials for a share of prizes, including Bethesda Store gift cards, Quick Draw entries to win cash prizes, additional prizes from exhibitors and sponsors, and a grand prize of $1,000.
