QuakeCon 2014: The Good Within Blood Drive
Gamers to Donate Blood During This Month’s Convention
This year’s QuakeCon event sees a very special partnership, and it's not QuakeGuy and DoomGuy joining forces in a glorious and bloody free for all. There will, however, be blood involved.
Bethesda and the American Red Cross are set to host "The Good Within Blood Drive" at this year’s festivities as the Red Cross seeks as much help and blood as they can get. The drive is heavily inspired by Bethesda’s new title "The Evil Within," and as a special thank you to donators, each will receive an official “The Evil Within” chill pack.
The blood drive will be held in the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas on Friday, July 18 and Saturday, July 19 during the event, and it’s a chance for gamers to give a little back to the world and shed a little (real) blood of their own without the added danger of being hunted down by a deranged mad man ... we hope.

Jan Hale, external communications manager at the American Red Cross shed more light with Player Theory on the need for donators during these summer months. This article is not just for the benefit of attendees of QuakeCon but also for the wider gaming community. If you are a donor then don’t hesitate to get involved and make your own contribution. You may not be getting a chill pack for your troubles but your certainly going a long way to giving someone else their much needed 1up.
The American Red Cross is asking blood donors to help prevent a summer shortage by making an appointment to roll up a sleeve and help save a life with a blood donation. With blood donation appointments currently lower than what is needed to maintain a sufficient blood supply, donors of all blood types are urged to schedule an appointment now, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative. Patients don’t get a vacation from needing blood. The need is constant. Donated blood is perishable. Red blood cells have a shelf life of only 42 days, so they must constantly be replenished. If you’re in Dallas in the next three days and want to donate, you can sign up with American Red Cross representatives in the Topaz room during blood drive hours: Friday, July 18 from 11 A.M. to 5 P.M. and Saturday, July 19 from 11 A.M. – 5 P.M. Be aware that donors must be at least 17 years old and meet American Red Cross requirements for donating blood, which can be found on the Rules For Donating webpage.
