PS4 Heat Issues? Not Likely - PS4 Approved for FCC Registration

By now, anyone and everyone who has paid attention to the current generation of gaming consoles has been made familiar with the ominous "red ring of death" that has plagued the Xbox 360 for many years. Playstation 3 owners have also faced something similar - commonly referred to as the "yellow light of death" - albeit less common than the red ring.

The main cause of these failures is because of the console overheating. This overheating can do all sorts of damage by frying components, melting solder, and more. Many factors can play into console overheating such as its design, where the user has placed it in their media cabinet, and airflow.

The recent FCC filing for the Playstation 4 has a stated operating temperature of 5 to 35 degrees Celsius. Compare that to the PS3's 44 to 55 degrees Celsius, and you can see where this is going. Yellow lights of death generally seem to occur around 60+ degrees Celsius, meaning that the PS4 should be in the clear by a wide margin.
