Play Either Emily or Corvo in “Dishonored 2,” Not Both
Similar to Most Games in the Past with Multiple Characters
Speaking with Mashable, Arkane Studios Co-Founder and "Dishonored 2's" Co-Director Raphael Colantonio discussed the protagonists of the game.
The idea of bringing Emily Kaldwn as the main character came from her adaption of personality from the previous protagonist Corvo Attano. When he grew more violent, so did she. So they ran with making Emily a new playable character due to her interesting personality and Corvo taking her from a comfortable life style and raising her.
Then came the idea of locking a player down to either Emily or Corvo throughout the game.
We were trying to decide how ... to break it up so you make the choice. It was the game's lead level design director, Christophe Carrier, who came up with what turned out to be a perfect solution.
He's the one who recommended, maybe you play as Emily for like half an hour and then you get to this pivotal moment where a dramatic thing happens, and you choose at that point whether to continue with Emily or switch to Corvo. And then you're locked in. Raphael Colantonio & Adam Rosenberg
The two also play differently and have different narrative perspectives. Emily is more elegant, as she used to be royalty. Corvo plays just like he did in the previous "Dishonored," which made him more gritty and raw.
There's a different theme in the narrative sense, in the literary sense. Corvo's an older guy, he's coming home for the first time to Serkonos. Emily is like an empress outlaw on the run, and she's young, she's 25. So their perspectives are very different.
"Dishonored 2" is slated to release sometime in 2016 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
