Nintendo Responds to the Negative Response to “Federation Force”
Reggie Asks Fans to "Trust Us"
Speaking with Mashable, Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime discussed the rather negative reception "Metroid Prime: Federation Force" received after being revealing at E3 2015. Reggie stated that the idea for the games was a sense of transformation.
We're taking our great IP and transforming them and making them new again — making them fresh and appealing for the fan who feels they know the franchise. But we're giving them new things to enjoy. Reggie Fils-Aime
To say that the reception was negative when "Federation Force" was revealed would be an understatement.
What the fan at home saw was something in the Metroid Prime universe that they weren't expecting. The reaction has been negative. There's no sugar coating it.
Reggie then stated this was a case that people weren't able to get a firm grasp of what the game feels like.
This is an example where fans who aren't able to get their hands on the game may be at a bit of a competitive disadvantage. Everyone who has played what we are showing regarding Metroid Prime, they've come across really pleased. My ask is that fans trust us.
This case of fans expressing dissatisfaction with a game is similar to when "The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker" was revealed, contrasting the realistic art design with its cartoonish cel-shading artwork. However, it should be noted that the game had Link as the protagonist and identical gameplay to "Ocarina of Time" and "Majora's Mask" before, where "Federation Force" does not feature Samus Aran as the protagonist or main playable character and the gameplay is more focused on cooperative first-person shooting and sports. "Federation Force" is slated to release sometime in 2016.
