“Myst” Receiving the “Defiance” Treatment, Gets a Show - “Myst” Franchise Snags TV Show Deal

Cyan Worlds, the developers behind the “Myst” franchise, sealed a deal with Legendary TV and Digital Media in order to develop a TV show for the 20-year old series.

“Myst” started as a simple point-and-click adventure in 1993 for Mac OS with a PC version soon to follow. You took on the role as an unseen adventurer who stumbled on a world that connected to other imagined worlds through books hidden away on Myst Island. It was up to you to figure out where you were, the man who created the world you now inhabited. The game relied on QuickTime to run and was essentially a series of still images you navigated between.

The following four sequels and cancelled MMO, “Myst Online: Uru Live” followed over the course of the next decade. Since then, the game has received makeovers and upgrades in order to be played by fans in something other than a virtual machine.

In addition to a show following lead character Atrus, Sirrus, and Achenar’s adventures, the franchise will see another game title added to the collection.

Whether or not the series will be traditional broadcast or digital-only has not been decided.
