Meet “Evolve’s” Newest Monster - Offline Mode Confirmed

Turtle Rock studios has slowly revealed the trio of monsters that will be in their monster-fighting game "Evolve" when it ships this coming Feburary. First, there was the powerful but slow Goliath. Next, we had the Cthulhu-influenced Kraken. Now, they have revealed the third: the Wraith.

The Wraith looks like a really mean praying mantis - with tentacle-like legs and huge, bladed foreclaws. She (we're pretty sure it's a she) will be a stealth-based monsters, striking from the shadows, utilizing distractions and ambush tactics to separate the hunters and take them out, one by one. Just like the other monsters, she will have four abilities. Her Warp Blast allows her to make a super-fast, forward attack. The next ability, Abduction, allows her to physically grab a hunter and move one of the hunters. The Decoy ability lets the Wraith turn invisible, and sends out a decoy version of the monster for the hunters to chase after. Lastly, there is the Wraith's Super Nova ability, which is a last-resort sort of ability and does exactly what you imagine it to do.

The Wraith is a mostly up-close-and-personal sort of attacker (as opposed to the Kraken's ranged attacks), and she lacks the heavy armor of the Goliath. Her speed and ability to turn invisible really make up for those disadvantages though. The Wraith seems like she will be the hardest of the monsters to master, but once you have her figured out, she could easily be the most satisfying to play.

That's not all the news we have on Evolve, though. Turtle Rock has also recently announced that the final game will have a playable offline mode.

Playing Evolve competitively, against other players online, can be a lot of pressure. We wanted to make sure anyone could play the whole game, including Evacuation, alone, with, or against the AI and it’s still fun.
Chris Ashton, Co-Founder of Turtle Rock

Offline, solo game-play will essentially be the same as the online mode, but bots will control the role of the other hunters (like solo mode in "Left 4 Dead") and the player will have the ability to switch between them to strategically use their abilities when necessary to control the battlefield.

"Evolve" is due for release on February 15, 2015 on PC, PS4 and XBox One.
