“Labyrinth” board game in the works - Stolen Baby Brother Not Included

River Horse has announced that they have acquired the rights necessary to make a board game based on the popular movie "Labyrinth." They made the announcement on their website with the following release:

We have been working with The Jim Henson Company and have secured the licence to make a board game based on the magical film "Labyrinth!"

We can’t, at time of writing, tell you much more about it at the moment, but rest assured that the film is a firm favorite here at River Horse and we are very excited to be making the game.

The Europe-based game company River Horse has been around since 2010 and has worked on such games as "Dust Warfare," "Dreadball," "Loka," and many others. Most recently, they've had a hand in the "Terminator Genisys" game that is due to be released sometime this summer. "Labyrinth" is arguably the most popular IP that River Horse has worked on.

This will not be the first board game based on the popular Jim Henson film. Golden Games Inc published a version in 1986, where players raced to the center of a complicated maze (a surprising mechanic, I know). The players had the ability each turn to either move their own piece or to rotate a quadrant of the labyrinth, helping themselves or slow down an opponent.

River Horse has not provided any other information about any mechanics they plan to implement in the game or even an estimated release date. It will be interesting to see how River Horse will interpret the film into board game form. Player Theory will keep you up to date as more information comes to light.
