Frogwares Studio Announces “The Sinking City” - Open-world game in a Lovecraftian setting

Frogwares Studio, the team behind "Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments," has announced their next endeavor: "The Sinking City." The game is set to be an open-world investigation type of game, set in a very Lovecraft universe. From the initial release:

It’s bigger than what we’ve ever made and we feel it’s the right next step for us, bringing the investigations to be free and opened in the city. We also believe that Lovecraft universe, Cthulhu Mythos is the right setting for the game.

The Lovecraft/Cthulhu setting has been dear to us for years. In 2016, we’ll celebrate the 10 years of Sherlock Holmes the Awakened, a Sherlockian/Lovecraftian adventure, a game that was seen as a milestone in narrative adventure gaming back then.

For a while, Frogwares was working with Focus Home Interactive to develop a "Call of Cthulhu" game, but in 2015 the development of that particular title was transferred to Cyanide Studio, who look like they're well on their way to a 2017 release. It has not been stated if the switch had anything to do with the development of "The Sinking City."

Given their success in developing several interesting (and difficult) Sherlock Holmes titles, "The Sinking City" will no doubt be a game to check out in the future. Frogwares will have a demo available of "The Sinking City" at the Game Developers Conference next week, where we will also learn a lot more about the game and possibly get a release date.
