“Forza 6” Adds Microtransactions - These Are Called

On the Official Forza Motorsports webpage, "Forza Motorsports 6" has a review of what's new and to come for the game, which includes a form of micro-transactions called "Tokens."

On Saturday, we’ll be activating tokens in Forza Motorsport 6, allowing players to purchase tokens which can be used for in-game items like cars and Mod packs. Players who do not wish to see the token feature in Forza Motorsport 6 menus will have the option to disable this feature from appearing by turning Tokens off in the HUD Options menu.

As stated in the statement, Tokens can be turned off if you don't want to see it. However, other players can still acquire cars and Mod packs regardless. Destructoid reached out to Turn 10 Studios, the developer for the game and the "Forza" series, to ask "why it waited so long [to implement these microtransactions], if and how players actually asked for this, and if this will affect the progression pace of Forza 6's career," to which a Microsoft spokesperson (note not Turn 10 spokesperson) responded:

Forza Motorsport 6 was designed, tuned and play-tested from the ground up without Tokens. Now that we’ve confirmed that the game economy is balanced and fun for our players out in the wild, we are offering them as a matter of player choice. Some players appreciate using Tokens as a way of gaining immediate access to content that may take many hours to acquire in the normal course of play. There is also an option within the in-game menu to turn off Tokens entirely. We are dedicated to creating open-ended, evolving experiences that are built with and for our fans.

Coincidentally, "Forza Motorsports 5" drew criticism for said microtransactions that its career progression was rather stunted by being reliant on said microtransactions. Why Turn 10 waited a while to add in the Token feature now isn't known or who had asked for the feature, as they have said (as quoted by Destructoid) they won't add them unless "players asked for them."
