“Flappy Bird” Is Making a Comeback
The Yellow Bird Is Ready to Flap Back into Our Hearts
Are you ready for the "Flappy Bird" craze is creeping back up on us. "Flappy Bird" is gearing up to return to the big stage. Developer Dong Nguyen confirmed that the game will be making its return in Aug. 2014 on the iOS. He also stated that this time it's going to be "less addictive" and even have a multiplayer option.
"Flappy Bird" is a mobile game that came out last year that became a wildly addictive overnight hit. It was a free mobile game in which you would tap the screen repeatedly to make your bird flap through sets of pipes. The game was notoriously difficult, only rewarding you with a single point each time you succeeded in passing through a set of pipes.
Nguyen was making up to $50,000 a day just off of the ads that would appear at the top of the game. He received notoriety over his game, but it wasn't all good. He never expected the level of attention that the game received, much less the intensity of people's addiction. In Feb. 2014, Nguyen announced that he was taking the game off the app store permanently. His decision caused an uproar, and people who hadn't had the chance to try the game rushed to grab their copy, sparking a frenzy of clones developed with the intention of piggybacking on the success of the original.
