First Trailer Released for First-Person Indie Game, “Firewatch” - Campo Santo's Debut IP Shown off at PAX 2014

Campo Santo, a new indie studio, has revealed their debut title, "Firewatch," at its PAX panel. The first-person mystery exploration game has been in the pipeline for the past few months, but this is the first look at exactly what it is.

The trailer is just over two minutes long, and while it doesn't reveal the point of the video game, it does show the relationship between Henry and his supervisor Delilah, both fire lookouts in the Wyoming wilderness. The game will follow Henry as he explores the wilderness, although we are not quite sure what he will find out there.

It is not the easiest trailer to follow, but does give a few pointers to mystery men in the wilderness and exploration into caves. On the "Firewatch" website it says that the player will make interpersonal choices while out in the world, which may affect Henry's relationship with Delilah.

There are plenty of avenues Campo Santo could take this game - we would love to see a sort of survival game, where the player must make it back to his lookout before the night comes. The trailer did not show any signs of danger, but half-way through there is another person on the hilltop, who backs off when spotted by Henry.

Design wise, this looks to be another very colorful if somewhat cartoony video game. The aesthetic reminds us a bit of "No Man's Sky." It looks like there will be at least two fire-towers, just from the screenshots of the trailer. We are still awaiting more information about the story and objectives of the game.

Campo Santo is a small indie studio, but it has quite a good amount of talent. Creative Director Jake Rodkin worked on "The Walking Dead" at Telltale Games and other members of the team have been involved with big studios in the past. "Firewatch" will be released in 2015 on Windows, Mac and Linux, with no word on a PS4 or Xbox One edition.
