Fanmade “Suikoden 2.5” Coming Soon
If Fans Wait Long Enough for a Game, They’ll Make It Themselves
The first installment in a series of episodes sequeling “Suikoden 2” is slated to release in early November. According to the developer’s Facebook page, the first chapter serves as a prequel to the earliest events of “Suikoden 2,” showing screenshots of Lucas and Agares Blight, two of the initial antagonists. The second and third episodes will take place after the events of “Suikoden 2,” and comments have shown that Viktor will be the star of this game. The team added that “2.5” will keep the story-driven feel that “Suikoden” fans have grown used to and that they intend to keep the prequel/sequel within constraints of the series’ lore.
The developer stated in a Q&A discussion on the Facebook page that the game does use tilesets from the original game. The dialogue and text boxes appear to have been improved, but the general appearance of the screenshots upholds developer claims.
From the “Suikoden 2.5” development blog, the story will focus on more outlying areas of the world, including the Badlands of the lower continent. As in previous games, gear will be leveled up at blacksmiths, but “2.5” includes armor level ups as well. It goes on to say that, instead of focusing solely on attack power when leveling up gear, players can choose which stats to focus and that these can include elemental and status resistances.
Suikoden has been one of Konami’s most successful franchises and has been lauded by critics and a huge fanbase since the first game had its Japanese debut in 1995. Another Facebook group, the 25,000 strong Suikoden Revival Movement, has lobbied for the production of a new game in the series since 2012. They have even been featured on Konami’s UK and European blog, but Konami has not yet committed toward information on a new game in the franchise.
The latest installment in the series was “Suikoden V,” which released in 2006.

The developers have said they will shift to a new website when the release announcement is made. Suikoden will be a tough series to add to, and we’ll keep you posted on how this one goes.
