Extended Trailer for Latest “Fatal Frame” Installment Released
See the Camera Obscura in Action
Nintendo of Japan released a new trailer for the upcoming “Fatal Frame V: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden” which shows the usage of the Wii U's GamePad. The title (referred to in Japan as “Zero: Nuregarasu no Miko”) utilizes the GamePad as a real-world counterpart to the in-game Camera Obscura.
The Camera Obscura, an antique camera-like device that can capture spirit images and then exorcise them, is the only weapon in the game. By using the Wii U GamePad in the same manner as a camera (the screen acts as a view finder), the player can interact with the environment to find hidden objects and use various types of film to capture malicious spirits.
“Fatal Frame V” looks to contain many of the common elements of its predecessors such as vengeful spirits, Shinto rituals, and exorcism. Additionally, it will include other aspects that have made the franchise so popular—multiple endings, unique game play, and unsettling atmosphere. It will feature a very distinct Japanese horror flavor in its usage of Japanese buildings and shrines, spirit photography, as well as the water motif. The game (whose title translates to “Wet Crow Shrine Maiden”) heavily features horror elements involving water such as the spirits of drowned females—depicted as being completely drenched—and seemingly constant rainfall.
The game is slated for release September 27 which falls one day after the release of a movie based on a novelization of the “Fatal Frame” game franchise. “Fatal Frame V: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden” is a Wii U exclusive, and there is currently no information about an international release of the game.
