“Dragon Age: Inquisition” Started Off Differently
Started As Multiplayer-Only
In an interview with GamesIndustry, Bioware's Executive Producer Mark Darrah discussed "Dragon Age: Inquisition" and a few behind-the-scenes aspects of the game. In particular, "Dragon Age: Inquisition" started off as a different game than what is shown today.
Weirdly we actually had a project code-named Blackfoot which was the first game we had that was looking at Frostbite. It was a Dragon Age game, multiplayer only, that was in development before Dragon Age II came out. That became the core of what became Dragon Age Inquisition, the techlines, more than any of the development, so we've actually been looking at this a long time. Mark Darrah, Bioware
Of note, this isn't the first time that an EA published game introduced multiplayer for singleplayer-oriented games. Bioware's "Mass Effect 3" introduced multiplayer that barely impacted the main game in 2012 and Maxis' "SimCity 2013" also introduced multiplayer for the first time, which being online was mandatory to play the game at all (until a patch for an offline mode was made) similar to how "Blackfoot" was originally designed .
"Dragon Age: Inquisition" releases on Nov. 18 in North America, Nov. 20 in Australia, Nov. 21 in Europe, and Nov. 27 in Japan for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
