“Destiny” Is Exclusive to PlayStation in Japan - Bungie's Blockbuster Will Be Exclusive to PS3 and PS4 for Japanese Gamers

Sony announced that they will be publishing "Destiny" in association with Activision in Japan.

This news comes after the announcement of several PlayStation-exclusive features for the game, including a co-op "Strike Mission" set on Mars, an exclusive multiplayer map and several exclusive guns and gear items. PlayStation Plus members were also given exclusive access to the Destiny Alpha, with the Beta launching on July 16.

The game will launch on Sept. 11 in Japan, two days after the Western release date and one week after the launch of the Xbox One console.

Activision has discussed a possible PC version of the game, but there has been no official confirmation of a PC release just yet.

Part of the reason for the game being a Sony exclusive in Japan may be that PC and Xbox platforms have traditionally been far less popular in that territory. To date, the Xbox 360 has sold 1.66 million units in Japan, while the PlayStation 3 sold over 10 million.

The delayed Japanese release of the Xbox One may suggest that Microsoft doesn't have high hopes for winning the territory over at this stage in the console generation. The PlayStation 4 has been available in Japan since January and already boasts an install-base of around 60,000, meaning that this partnership with Bungie may help Sony further secure its dominance of the Japanese console market.
