Chance For Another “Warcraft” RTS Once “Starcraft 2” Is Done

Potential For "Starcraft 3," As Well

Chance For Another “Warcraft” RTS Once “Starcraft 2” Is Done - Potential For

No one can fault for Blizzard for not being busy. They're running the largest MMORPG in the world and are also responsible for one of the most popular and competitive RTS games in modern times. While their current focus still seems to on "World of Warcraft," "Heroes of the Storm" and "Starcraft 2," there are some at the company with their eyes on the horizon - specifically once they are done with "Starcraft 2."

Tim Morten, a producer at Blizzard, spoke rather frankly on this in an interview with IGN at Gamescom:

This isn’t the end of StarCraft, but it’s the end of this story for these characters. We don’t have any specific plans, but I’ll say that the universe has so much potential for more stories, clearly other stories could be told. It’s very rewarding for us to hear that there’s demand out there for more RTS content in the Warcraft universe so once we’re done with Void I think we’ll get together as a team and talk about what would inspire us to work on next. There’s no question, though, that we’ll consider Warcraft, StarCraft, or even new ideas. Anything is possible.

While far from an actual confirmation, it is an exciting idea and given the "Warcraft" universe's immense popularity, it does not seem terribly unlikely. The first "Warcraft" game came out in 1994 and the last of the RTS games in the series ("Warcraft 3") came out in 2002.

It's been more than a decade since we had a new "Warcraft" strategy game.

"World of Warcraft" seemed like the end of the line for the "Warcraft" series, but given Tim Morten's comment at Gamescom, this may not be the case. It will be interesting to see if another "Warcraft" RTS would tie into the "World of Warcraft" story or if it would enter the universe at another point in the time line.

Still, it's still a huge maybe. And there is another chance that Blizzard might pursue "Starcraft 3" and advance that story-line.

Maybe they'll do both.

Both is good.
