Anti-Bullying Game Seeks Crowd-Funding
“Sumoboy” Kickstarter Looks to Raise $100K
“Kickstarter's first ever anti-bullying inspired game” is seeking goal of $100,000 in crowdfunds. The title “Sumoboy” comes to us from Australian developer Taprr and is being developed for PC, Linux, Mac, and mobile platforms.
“Sumoboy” follows the transition of Oji, a chubby orphan who is constantly bullied from the position of a victim to a hero. Presented as an adventure game, it explores the feelings associated with those who are bullied - fear, anger, resentment, etc. The overall purpose of the game is to empower the bullied and encourage them to fight back against the negativity by standing up for themselves and others.
The protagonist, Oji, is the epitome of the unlike hero. As an orphan tormented by bullies, he is far from a traditional video game hero. However, that is just what makes our game so special; Oji’s greatest attribute is his empathy for those in trouble.
“Sumoboy” is set in a rich, texturally lush environment that combines elements of traditional Japanese culture and mythology with a compelling story. Mixing complex puzzles with movesets based on actual sumo techniques, the game offers a variety of challenges for gamers.
The Kickstarter campaign ends June 26.
