Announced: “Fury of Dracula” 3rd Edition
Denn Die Todten Reiten Schnell.
Today, Fantasy Flight announced the 3rd edition of the popular mystery-horror board game "Fury of Dracula." In the game, one player acts as Dracula, sneaking around Europe and spreading dark influence while up to four other players act as 'hunters,' tracking the vampire down with the goal of finally destroying him. The game itself is 28 years old, first released in 1987 by Games Workshop and later re-imagined by Fantasy Flight Games in 2006.
This new edition features new art and updated, streamlined mechanics lending itself (hopefully) to a player-friendly experience. The rounds are separated by night and day. Dracula acts during the night spreading influence, making vampires and setting traps for the hunters, while the hunters play both parts of the round, traveling during the day and taking actions to discover the immortal Count at night (or dealing with his minions). Dracula wins if he manages to advance his influence count to 13, while the hunters win if they manage to catch up to the vampire and defeat him.
Dracula has the abilities you'd imagine him to have - turning into a bat or mist, mesmerization, super strength and, of course, the whole being immortal thing. The hunters are represented by characters from Bram Stoker's Dracula: Dr. John Seward, Dr. Abraham Van Helsing,
Mrs. Mina Harker, and Lord Arthur Godalming. Van Helsing, for instance, has the ability to trade events with different players (minimizing or maximizing their effect) and Mina Harker has a "psychic" bond with Dracula, giving her an advantage when trying to track him.
"Fury of Dracula" 3rd Edition will be available for purchase in the fourth quarter of this year, so it'll be some time before you'll be able to help track down the immortal count, but Fantasy Flight will be demoing the game at it's booth at GenCon this year.
